About Ueno Coil

Ueno Coil is the world’s first common mode choke coil that we developed and put into mass production in 2013.
Compared to conventional toroidal coils, Ueno Coil is more compact in size and has superior noise suppression capability.
In addition, as Ueno Coil compensates for the weaknesses of manual winding and labor intensiveness and can be wound at high speed, it is suitable for mass production and quick delivery.

Characteristics

(1) Ultra-high-speed winding

5 seconds/coil – 240 seconds in the case of manual winding

Winding time required for a coil is only “5 seconds.”
Working hours can be reduced significantly.

(2) High reliability

“Zero” occurrence of layer short

Stable quality with “zero” layer shorts is achieved by using the Edgewise winding (single layer) method with no tightening of the wires,
preventing stress from being applied to the insulation coating.

(3) Superior noise suppression effect

Ueno Coil enables a reduction in the number of unnecessary coils because its wide frequency range produces a high noise suppression effect.

An example of the reduction of the number of coils used in a 45 W AC adapter for a laptop computer is introduced here.
A test was conducted by replacing two existing coils with one Ueno Coil.

Two existing toroidal coils, one for low frequency and the other for high frequency, were used to cope with the noise generation frequency range. On the other hand, as a wide frequency range can be covered by mounting only one Ueno Coil, we succeeded in eliminating one unnecessary coil accordingly.

Although this type of toroidal coil is most popular, it lacks productivity and quality stability because it is wound manually. The securing of labor force is a future issue.

Ueno’s original product (ADR-25 series) is improved in manual winding, toroidal winding speed, and winding quality, but customization is a little difficult because of its complicated structure. This is a line filter that is traditionally used and can be wound automatically. Its large size is a disadvantage (performance is poor for its size) and many are low current types. As this product can be wound at ultra-high-speed, is compact in size, has high performance, and has low line capacity, it is effective in suppressing even high-frequency noises. The new Ueno Coil made by redesigning the conventional model achieved downsizing and high performance. Among automatically-wound coils, this product is the most compact in size and achieves the highest performance in the world.
             

 

The patent for Ueno Coil

The magnetic core used in Ueno Coil consists of two magnetic legs and two connections that connect the ends of the legs. Equipped with a “flared portion,” these connections produce the functional effects of reducing the height while securing the cross section area and of increasing the rise rate of common mode inductance more than that of normal mode inductance.
